I wonder what the Midianite women had that Israelite women didn't have?A willing spirit?
ROFL!!! nice one OldSoul! No Apologies
it just dawned on me: the way an israelite got married was by taking a woman into his home/tent.
when zimri did that with a midianitess, he was killed by phinehas for it.
where was the standard set forth that they could not marry midianite women on pain of death?

there was a statement in a 1997 awake that i see people quoting on the internet that is trying to imply 4.9% of jws are divorced compared to half of worldly people.
i have found some statistics that prove that this is quite a deception.
awake 1997 september 8 p.11 a people taught to love.
I think most JWs nowadays realize that divorce rates are really not that much lower for dubs than for society overall. I have even heard speakers at assemblys acknowledging that divorce rates among JWs are rising.
JStalin, JWs are not DFd for getting a divorce. They are DF'd if they commit fornication(which will likely result in a divorce at the same time) or if they divorce and then remarry without having scriptural grounds for the divorce.
IMHO, JWs attitude towards separation and divorce have loosened up considerably over the last decade or so. They are much less self-righteous about having better marriage rates than worldly people, and divorce, while still not overly condoned, doesn't carry quite the stigma it once did among them.
I heard a sad story a while back from my wife. She ran into an old pioneer partner. Apparently this sister's elder husband was unhappy and wanted a divorce. She agreed to the divorce, but since he was afraid of losing his precious position, he asked her to be the one to actually file for divorce. So she does, they get the divorce. No one is DF'd, he is still an elder, but since she filed, she is now under 'restrictions' - permanently. They are both still active dubs, both unmarried, he continues to be an elder, every couple years he writes her to ask if he is free to remarry( the answer of course, no).
How screwed up is that?? First of all, how can someone be on restrictions "permanently"? Its not like she can "repent" and un-divorce him. And of course the idea that she takes the fall when he is the one that wanted out in the first place is boggling, along with the fact that she accepts this and continues to be a brain-dead dub.

this is a question for those that believe in a god or gods, particularly those described as "all knowing" or "almighty".. how do you defend to yourself that your god has not in any modern situation saved his people from anything?.
people of all faiths are regularly killed by various natural elements.
of course, if you knew such a thing was going to befall a person and you could do something to protect them, you would.
Oldsoul, you make some good points, but let me reply to a couple of your statements:
Just because someone can do something, doesn't mean it should be done.
Right, but we are talking about saving lives here. And its not a case of, person A can be saved, but only if person B is killed or allowed to die. I would say in any case where a person is able to take direct action to save a another human life, without endangering any other person's life, and where there is no way the person in danger can save themself, then for the first person not to act is wrong. If I saw someone unwittingly about to walk off a cliff, and I simply stood by and watched, how can I not feel guilty?
Do you know what the eventual harm/benefit ratio to the species would have been if there was no earthquake and tsunami? Then on what do you base the valuation system of Good and Bad (morality) if you don't know what the eventual results of action/inaction will be?
So then doctors should never operate on someone without first determining what possible harm this person might cause if the doctor.
We're talking about a supposed omnipotent being here; if he knows what the eventual results are, then he also will know a way to avoid any possible negative consequences. If he is not that all-knowing, then just like the rest of, you ignore what might happen, you act now to save the life, as long as it does not directly harm someone else.
I hope this helps you to grasp a bit more my relating that God's moral judgment may not match moral judgment among humans, because it is derived from an entirely different perspective.
Again, if you are saying his moral standards are so different from man, who is supposedly made in His image, then the whole conversation is moot. I certainly have no interest in worshipping someone whose standards are that incomprehensible. Well, I probably wouldn't be interested in worshipping him even if I could figure out his standards.

over the past several weeks i believe there have been 2 or 3 topics on "famous jws" or "jws with bios published by the wbts" who eventually departed the organization.
if one of those folks are reading, i apologize in advance that i cannot remember your name, or that i may not recall your personal info absolutely correct.
but george maynard's case did after he covered up the state of new hampshire's "live free or die" motto on his vehicles's plates.
I remember hearing about this guy back when I was still a loyal dub. I thought he sounded a little wacky.
Now, after reading the above, there is no doubt in my mind that he is a goofball.

i just went to the store a few hours ago, some store but does have 4 places for handicap people to park in, well of course when i get there four assholes young people were parked in all four places, and when i had to walk by the them gave them a good piece of my mind.
and they of course got mad (4 guys waiting on their bitches i guess) and told me to "f" myself, when another older man hollered at them they of course told him the same thing, and then a store employee was out there gathering carts and he told them to leave the handicap parking they told him the same thing.
well upon exiting the store there was a local policeman who had driven up (that upholds my belief in god) and was giving all four of the assholes a ticket for parkintg in handicap parking, i made sure i told him about how they acted and what they told me.
Ever tried going through a parking lot with 3 kids? Who refuse to stay with you and you don't have enough hands to keep them out of the traffic?
The first time they get run over, they will stop running out in front of cars.
Seriously, this could happen no matter where you park in the parking lot. And who has three kids that young? Either teach your kids how to behave out in public or leave them home.
Ever driven through a parking lot where little kids appear out of nowhere right in front of your car?
No, but I know enough to slow down when I see people up ahead.
Having parking for moms with these little kids is simply a safety issue. I'd rather roll in my wheelchair than drive over a kid
Again, they could get hit anywhere. Its not a safety issue, its pandering to parents. Gotta keep those consumers and their consumer kids happy.
Heck, when I was a kid, we got left in the car while mom and dad went in to get the groceries. Course that was the good old days. We didnt have seat belts, never heard of car seats for kids. Its a wonder we survived.

Ok I have read 4 pages and I most interested in LT's answer to this question, since I have been trying to figure out his 'take' on religion for quite a while now..
Dude, why do you keep ducking and dodging what is a very simple question. Let's narrow it down: an earthquake just killed over 20,000 people in Pakistan this week. Do you believe that a deity exists that has the power to prevent a tragedy like this? If so, why didn't he?????
If the answer is "well he could, but he does what he wants and we are far too puny to begin to understand his ways," then my next question is, what the hell good is a god like this???? If he has the ability to save human lives from needless death, and yet he chooses/is unable to/is too busy/just doesnt give a rip/ not to do so, then what does believing in him accomplish?

I think the whole thing is getting out of line. Parking spots for mothers with young children, parking for Seniors!!!!
Ok, handicapped/disabled/physically challenged/PC buzzword of the week/ I can see. Seniors... ok but then again, they are retired, they got no where they have to be, they can walk. Mommys? No way. What possible reason should there be for them to get the choice spot? LET THEM WALK. It will give them time to reconsider their (often ill-thought) decision to reproduce.
Why is it everybody thinks they're 'special' nowadays?? It ain't gonna kill anyone to walk a few extra feet to the store entrance. How do you think people got around before cars?

no where does it mention that noah traveled around the world in his big boat.
in fact, is says that the ark was floating "high above the earth".
also, what does matthew mean about "just like in the days of noah?
Trying to explain how Noah's Ark and the Flood happened is like trying to figure out how Santa can get to every kids house in one night.

How many of us were aware that the bylaws require that each cong. hold" General Annual Meetings" for the election of officers, their names and titles and the annual statement is signed by a duly authorized officer thereof. Here is the enigma :Are persons who are "appointed", by an outside corporation into positions of administration within the Cong. and call themselves ELDERS ,committing a crime by posing themselves off to the Pennsylvania Department of State,as being duly authorized officers of the JW Cong? Being that the Cong, have not voted them in as Cong. President, Secretary and Treasurer, for which latter officers, Pennsylvania Law requires a Congregational VOTE?
A further Enigma :Is the Watch Tower Society committing a crime by instructing its "appointees", its Elders ,to assume to themselves the titles such as President,Secretary and Treasurer of the incorporated JW Cong.,when those such Elders have not been lawfully voted in by the incorporated Cong.Membership? But by Elder vote only?
In closeing, on a lighter note can you recall being notified by the Secretary to attend the G.A.M.for the election of officers in accordance with the law ?
Uhm, every congregation I have been in has conducted their "Annual Corporation Meeting". Its held once a year, announced ahead of time, usually held immediately following the School and Service meeting. At each meeting, from one to three corporate officers are elected. All active members of the congregation that are present vote, not just elders. They usually are elders or ministerial servants, and of course the vote is unanimous.
I have to wonder if some of you ever really paid attention to what went on at the Kingdom Hall, this is a total non-issue.
